Elsevier Up in Arms, Under Fire

This just in from The Scientist:

The science publishing giant Elsevier--whose name you've probably encountered if you've ever looked up journal articles--is also involved in organizing international weapons exhibitions. This clearly undermines its expressed goal of broadcasting medical and science news. Researchers have responded by passing around two petitions--one stating that Elsevier should simply cease its organizations, and a more strongly worded one saying that they will boycott Elsevier completely until all exhibitions are ended.

You've really got to wonder why a major publisher in the sciences would moonlight as an arms exhibition organizer...
